Potato Cannon was started by singer-songwriter Mark Coleman in 1994. Through the years, because of the impressive variety of covers and originals that it played, Potato Cannon became known as "Hawaii's only original jazzy alternative New Agey country rock 'n roll blues band."

In August 1998, the band recorded "Monday Night Live!" in the studios of KTUH-FM at the University of Hawaii, featuring all originals.

Potato Cannon members at the time were Coleman on bass guitar and vocals; James Hicks, also an original member of the band, on vocals and percussion; Dale Machado on guitar; Burl Burlingame on guitar, harmonica and vocals; and Craig Anderson on drums.

"Swaggering Blues Rock steers away from the typical grunting guitars and swampy harmonicas of the genre long enough to play gritty, stomping tunes. Potato Cannon's good-time attitude about playing music comes through loud and clear in their songs."
